The Yosemite National Park Region envelopes the communities along the four highways leading into the park. Each beckons the traveler with unique natural and human history. Ideally, the most comprehensive way to experience the region is to enter Yosemite through one gateway and exit through another. Example itineraries will be a feature of this website.
From San Francisco and most destinations in northern California, State Highway 120 (Northern Yosemite Highway) is California's most direct and scenic all weather route to Yosemite National Park. It is itself, a wonderful destination with many attractions to enjoy throughout all four seasons. Highway 120 winds through rolling hills dappled with heritage oaks, past picturesque villages still boasting historical remnants of the great California Gold Rush. Then it climbs toward the dramatic high country, affording the traveler commanding views of the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Northern Yosemite Highway is open to Yosemite Valley all year round.

Whether one enters or exits Yosemite via Highway 120, or simply returns to comfortable accommodations after a day's sightseeing in the park, opportunities beckon the traveler to leave the fast lane and savor the slower pace of a bygone era for a few extra days. Hike, fish, golf, white water raft or follow the Mark Twain-Bret Harte and gold rush trails through a slice of California History.
